  5.     With the approach of Passover, supermarkets are carrying
  6. abundant supplies of matzo, the unleavened bread consumed
  7. during the Seder ceremony as a reminder of the Jews'
  8. tribulations under Pharaoh and their flight from Egypt. But
  9. last week a federal grand jury declared that the holiday price
  10. of matzo has not been kosher.

  12.     In an indictment handed down in Newark, the Government
  13. charged that the B. Manischewitz Co., the largest U.S. matzo
  14. baker, conspired with other firms to fix the price of products
  15. worth $25 million from 1981 to 1986. Jersey City-based
  16. Manischewitz is accused of exploiting the increased demand for
  17. matzo during the eight-day holiday by arranging "agreed-upon
  18. increases" for a variety of matzo items. Manischewitz denies
  19. the charges, saying its prices were "independently and fairly
  20. determined."
